MEGHALAYA

 

The name means "the abode of clouds" describes the climatic phenomenon that brings torrents of rain to its mountainous region. Situated in the North East of India, Meghalaya is bounded by Assam in the north and east, and the plains of Bangladesh in the south and west. Meghalaya is marked out as a separate state with the Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills. All three tribes follow the matrilineal system of society. English is the official language of Meghalaya.

A state of great scenic beauty; with undulating rivers, waterfalls, sparkling mountain streams, emerald green lakes, gorges and panoramic view from hilltops. It is diversely multi cultural, multi ethnic and multi religious, with an amazing mix of traditional and modern lifestyle.

 

 

Day 1              Guwahati - Shillong

Arrive in Guwahati. You will be picked up at the airport and driven to Shillong, the capital city of the beautiful state of Meghalaya, the abode of clouds. On the way to Shillong, you can stop at the magnificent Umium lake at Barapani. On reaching, check in at hotel.

Overnight stay in Shillong.

 

Day 2              Shillong – Dawki – Mawlynnong – Shillong

Today you will proceed for a full day excursion to Dawki - International trade route border town of Dawki is a splendid drive passing through deep gorges and ravines, which is certainly a thrilling experience. Dawki is a beautiful place situated in the borders of Bangladesh and Meghalaya. You will also have an option of boating in the beauiful Dawki river.

Later you will be visiting Mawlynnong Village  - has earned the distinction of being the Cleanest Village in Asia the picturesque village, offers many interesting sights such as the living root bridge and another strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. Mawlynnong nestled in the pristine hill state of Meghalaya, is along the Indo-Bangla border. This cute and colorful little village is known for its cleanliness. Later, return to Shillong in the late afternoon.

Day 3             Shillong – Jowai Krang Suri Falls - Shillong

Today you will be going for a day trip to Jowai to visit the famous Krang Suri falls. Spend the day exploring the falls and the nearby places. Return back to Shillong in the afternoon.

Day 4:             Shillong - Cherrapunji

In the morning, you will be going to Cherrapunji, the rainiest place on earth. On the way, you will be visiting Shillong peak and Elephant falls. On reaching, check into the hotel.

Day 5              Cherrapunji

In the morning, you will be going for local sightseeing  in Cherrapunji you will be visiting Nohkalikai falls, Seven Sisters falls, Mawsmai caves etc. 

Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

 

Day 6              Cherrapunji – Guwahati

In the morning, check out from the hotel. You will be directly transferred to  Guwahati airport to catch your flight for your onward destination.
